I spent a couple days this week in SE Utah. I took a few of my friends from Europe, so a lot of my time was spent hiking around in the middle of the day showing them all the must sees around Moab... and obviously we had to go up to Delicate Arch. I already have my "delicate arch shot" so I wandered around down below while everyone else was waiting for the sunset. It had rained the day before and I found a couple puddles that were just in the right place to reflect the arch. It was a really fun few days, mostly because the weather was so warm... now im back up in Breck watching the snow coming down hard outside of my window. Maybe I should have stayed a few more days!

A fine and unique capture of this icon of all icons!
Have you thought about cropping the image in half, with the emphasis solely on the reflection?
Or perhaps cropping down so only the sandstone wall and interesting shadows appear (along with the reflection)?
Just a thought...

thanks John, I actually spent most of my time photographing just the puddle, and I really liked the way those turned out. Just posted this one because it was the first one I got around to
Nate, I like this quite a bit. Very unique take, and the reflection looks excellent. The shadows seem a bit too dark though, especially in the middle of the image as you transition to the lit background. I would see if you can lighten up that area a bit to make for a smoother transition.

I love the arch framed by the puddle. I hope you post some of the reflection shots when you get around to them.

Agree. The reflection in the puddle is great. Another example of less is more. Congrats.
I agree with John--there is too much separation between arch and puddle to bother including them both--the puddle is way more interesting anyways

I am also a fan of cropping to just the puddle...it is super cool. The way the shot is right now, I feel the top competes with the best part of the image.

Wow, never could I imagine that a reflection shot was even possible here. Maybe on my next trip I'll carry a couple gallons of water along since nature doesn't provide one very often
