Monument Valley Spring
After a couple of months in Arizona my wife and I were on our way home but stopped for a few days in Monument Valley. Talk about lucky. It was raining when we arrived March 26th but the storm broke just at sunset.

The next morning I photographed El Capitan. I liked the way this angle made it appear to be praying hands.

There are a number of small sand dunes in the area. I spotted this one as I drove to Teardrop Arch.

The other lucky part was the timing for the Mittens shadow. We were there at the perfect time for the shadow of West Mitten to fall on East Mitten. I'm kind of like Mr. Magoo, stumbling around and falling into the good things. I guess the important thing is to keep stumbling around, eh?

Preference to #1 with the hanging cloud in front of the butte. The red sand contrasts well with the darker sky also.
In the Mitten Shadow image, darkening/contrasting the sky a little might be an option, imo. Looks like there are faint color bands in the sky to bring out.

Rod, your first image is super special because it is so different from the thousands of other photos I have seen of Monument Valley. Beautiful colors, composition and mood. I guess you're proof that if you stumble around long enough you're bound to stumble onto something!

I'm also in favor of #1 and I'm jealous of #4 as I've yet to witness this event....some day that place on my bucket list will be checked off!

Really like #1...very moody.
Number 4 is on my "bucket list" and it looks like I'll get to do it this fall. Geez, I hope that doesn't mean I'm going to kick the bucket after I shoot it!

A real fine collection of Monument Valley images. Nice to see some 'off the beaten trail' images, too.
I agree with Doug's advice regarding the skies of the Mitten Shadow.

Great light and color in #3!

#1 is easily my favorite here. It's not often one can combine moisture related components in a desert image....way to be there and to be ready for it.

Ditto on #1. Great image timing is everything.

#1 is great.
