Has anyone else noticed this? I read a post by Kurt Bowman on the lack of comments in the Avian gallery. I have also noticed that in general as well as lack of posts from regulars in Landscape. Has anyone else noticed this? ....or is it imagined? Maybe a seasonal thing as some people suggest in response to Kurt's posting.

Jim - Are there stats on this kind of thing? Just curious. I have noticed lulls before but not sure if this is different or not.

I've noticed that there's a seasonal element for sure, Eva. This just seems to be the time of year when folks are staying closer to home, maybe saving buxx and days off for summer. It will pick up again once they've made their trips and returned home. My "vacation" period comes earlier than most folks, and I just returned from 2 months on the road, during which I had very limited web access. Now I'm making up for my absence catching up on business and chores at home. I'll be more active starting about June, but just as most other folks are scattering to the hills. Count on an NPN reunion of sorts starting about August and back up to full swing in September.

Or that's my impression of the cycle around here, subject to revision with the real truth from Jim! :jump:

I have noticed a general slow-down, too. Aside from Hank's comment about folks saving for summer trips, I think the weather has a lot to do with it--a harsh winter and late arriving spring, storms and floods, etc. Also, with gas prices through the roof (especially in CA), I would imagine folks are not driving around as much; I know I'm not!

Here in CA, the usual magical spring bloom has not happened and many places in the Sierra are still under snow, and will be for a while. In fact, a late season storm is expcted to drop snow on the Sierra tomorrow, 5/8! I have to talk to Hank about keeping those GOA storms up there until I order one!

Like Hank, it's been my experience that NPN punches up later in the summer. We'll see, I suppose.

Yesterday my wife and I were comparing notes about our recent trip as we both processed images, and she raised an interesting point: "Did it strike you how few DSLRs we saw, while everyone had a pocket camera?"

And she's right. I bet we didn't see half a dozen DSLRs in a couple of months of travel. And I recall a number of folks who approached us, virtually apologizing for their pocket cameras and saying they had been leaving the DSLRs at home lately.

BTW- Ours was mostly a photo trip with an Anasazi "theme" laced with landscapes. Consider the list of places we visited while seeing virtually NO DSLRs among the many other photographers: Arches, Canyonlands, Colorado National Monument, Cedar Mesa, Natural Bridges, Hovenweep, Mesa Verde, Chaco Canyon, Bandelier, Pecos, Salmon Ruin, Aztec Ruin, Santa Fe, Taos, Pagosa Springs, Durango, Cortez and lots between.

Photo hot spots all. Isn't the lack of DSLRs among many hundreds of photographers interesting?
