A week or so ago, I hiked the Mt. Galbraith trail near Golden and noticed pasque flowers starting to bloom. I finally got around to going back today and the dry conditions are really taking a toll. There were still a few blooms in good shape, and some that had gone to seed. It was fun to bust out the macro lens again and look forward to more wildflowers.
Galbraith is around 6,000 ft - I saw some new pasque blooms in the Flatirons over the weekend around 7,000 ft. And spotted towhees are everywhere it seems. Surprisingly, I spotted a few green-tailed towhees this morning. I had never seen them in the Front Range foothills before.
Awesome Dave. #1 is just outstanding work. I would clone out that little hair looking thing sticking out of the top pedal and put this one up on your wall.
Wow! I love shot #2! The first shot is great too. I've never seen pasque flowers look so good. Furry flowers don't usually appeal to me. BTW, how was Mt. Galbraith after the fire earlier this year?
Really like that 1st one Dave. The Pasque flowers started here about 2 weeks ago, but there are very few this year because of the lack of moisture. BTW, I have Green-tailed Towhees every summer up here in Woodland Park.
Thanks for your comments. I was aware of the filament (hairy thing) when composing and chose to leave it in. Nope, no book anytime soon, but I am working on a multi-year project in the sagebrush ecosystem - maybe a book in 2-3 years. Thanks, Don for the GT towhee info. I photographed them in Gunnison last spring and was told that 26% of the entire population spends summer on the Western slope. We have many spotted towhees up here, so it was a nice surprise to see some of the orange-capped beauties singing their heads off.
These are both great! The targeted focus and beautifully colored background in #1 both work so very well here. I would surely clone out the filament, though.
