Flint Hills greening up
I finally made it out to one of my favorite places in the Flint Hills over the weekend, Chase County Park. In spite of having virtually no rain all Spring and now 100 degree days, the Tallgrass Prairie is amazingly green. The roots of some of these plants are around 10-20 feet deep so they can withstand periods of drought quite well.

This area had not been burned in several years and the sumac was getting pretty thick is spots. You can see the burned stalks in this view.

I was a too early for the showiest flowers but over the next few weeks the show should be spectacular.

On top of the hills, everything was green.

Thanks for looking.

Looks like some nice areas. If I have another trip like this I'll have to check out some of these areas.

Ken,
I really like the low light angle in the first 2 shots.
Nice work.

Beautiful work Ken. Was there any water flowing over the falls there?

Scott, I was really surpised that there was a little water still going over the falls. There seemed to be more water flowing into the lake than out of it so the springs must still be running well even though it is dry overall.

green grass and chunks of rock, gotta love the Flint Hills. Nice series, Ken, glad you were able to get out.
