Rainy Northwest
No, not that northwest. I've been up in NW Colorado since yesterday, where it's been rainy, sunny, rainy, cloudy, rainy, stormy, rainy, sunny, rainy and...well, you get the idea. This first shot is between Douglas Pass and Rangely last night.

This morning I got totally shut out of my plans to shoot Gates of Lodore in stormy conditions, but found this waterfall in the vicinity. The road to it was impassable due to all the rain, and even walking the quarter mile or so to it was challenging. It was like walking on a road covered with partially melted butter. Even the level parts were interesting, let alone anything with a grade. Needless to say, it was well worth the muddy boots.

One more for now, more when I get home, if not before. BTW, it's called Vermillion Falls, and I'd guess if it hadn't been raining so much, this would be just a trickle. BTW2, in honor of Showalter, I call this one Sage Spirit Falls.

I really like the last one, I personally like it with a bit less of the brown foreground but either way it is really nice. 4x5 might knock it out of the park though.

Like Jim, I'm a fan of your 3rd shot. Its so simple yet so complex. You did a good job making this a conversation piece.

Ummmm...these are all real sweet! A great example of 'bad weather makes good photography'.
I like the composition and colors of #2, but the cutoff falls make me long to see more. I'm sure you had a good reason to not include them. Also really liking #3, and I think the crop idea has great merit.

Wow, #3 reminds me of melting caramel (one of my all time favorite treats). And the foreground brush is a really cool contrast to the smoothness of the rest of the image.

Does a double rainbow mean a double pot o' gold? I keep expecting too see some Oompa-Loompas in the third image.
More outstanding stuff, Todd.

First one made me think of that double rainbow YouTube video, don't think I can ever look at a rainbow and not scream out "what does it mean!!". That last one is incredible, the texture contrast is stunning!

Great images Todd, even if you weren't able to photography what you wanted.

Nice series, Todd. I'm a sucker for rainbows, so I'm really drawn to the first image. I like the choice of shutter speed you used in the other two. That makes the water look like angel hair. Did you do any telephoto shots of just the water in #3? I'm seeing a bunch of nice comps there.

Awww, that rainbow reminds me of a trip I took last summer! Had a great guide who provided rainbows, storm clouds, full moon and magic sunset all in one evening! Love the rainbow one Todd!

The 2nd one of the falls is really killer and the pick shot for me. It's so unusual for a desert environment and the capuccino color tells the story.

Nice images! Really like that rainbow against the dark clouds.

Very nice set of images .

Really like that third one Todd, you handled the comp really well! I've been rafting in Lodore when Vermilion Creek flashes, and it's super cool, can turn the whole river orange, like Thai iced tea. Might have to post a shot, though none of mine do the phenomenon justice.

love #3--cool!

I really like the second composition from Vermillion Falls. You got some great color saturations in that overcast lighting.

I've only had a chance to shoot it in bright midday sunlight - ugh! Also, by mid June there were NO green plants on the stairsteps. The water was running much stronger. Maybe the plants were washed away with a good flash flood. I think the green adds a lot. I think your timing/luck was perfect.
