Finch ..REPOST
Spent around 10 / 12 hours last week waiting to have the finch to sit at a position where I wanted it to shoot. He was all around except for where I wanted him to be ... lucky to get him for a couple of seconds at last ..

Posted a larger version in teh Avian gallery ..

Your comments and critique highly appreciated as always ..

Wow, that's quite the stunning background. I can see why you waited for this shot. I'm sure I wouldn't have had the patience to wait 10-12 hours. I'd probably have bought a dead, stuffed finch and propped him up on the fence.

Beautiful capture of the finch. I like the detail in the bird and the fence slats, in fact wish there was a little more of the fence in the frame. My only nit is that the background is very distracting to me and pulls my attention away from the subject matter.

A wonderful artistic treatment here. Circles, curved surface of the bird contrasting with the texture and lines of the fence..Subject placement is unusual, but , effective...tones and colors all work for me. Good work!

Gorgeous shot and congrats for putting in the time to make it come together. You'll probably want to tell us what kind of finch, right?

Thanks a lot for your comments .

@Dave - I think this is a Male house finch.

This is really, really good, Soubhik!
Nice sharp shot of the bird, and I like the symmetry of the fence slats.
That background is pretty amazing. If you could burn down the brightest part near the center (NW of the bird's head), I think that it could lessen a distraction some. Your patience really paid off here!

I agree completely with John. Background looks great and everything is sharp, just burn down the bright areas a bit and you got a great shot!

Quite a vibrant background. The finch that low and right works for me. A speck in the top center and the spiderweb between the two left slats might be cloned out.

Wow, Soubhik, this is wonderful! The highlights don't bother me, but I can see value in making them not compete with the bird, as long as you can keep it natural looking. Along with this comp, I also see a crop from the top working. Thanks for having the patience to capture this.

Great color and composition. Maybe just a little more room on the bottom.

Thanks all for your suggestions , I have tried to tone down the highlights and cloned a spot on the upper right , kept the original version with a little more of the fence - does this look better ?

Thanks again for your time and critique on the same.

I like the second image better than the first. Awesome color and detail! Incredible background!

Wonderful shot and great patience. Have you looked at this with a little more cropped off the top so it's less square? For me a little less background pulls my eye down toward the finch more effectively. Nice job!

Well, this is a great improvement, Soubhik!
I especially like the added fence. Makes a nicer balance. Well done, sir!

I prefer the second version too. Wonderful shot! I also like Randall's crop idea.
