Sorry it is a few days late, I was fortunate enough to be on call the first week of May then crash my computer by sheer stupidity. It has been amazingly fun!
This seems to be the time of year where all of the winter's brooding and planning come together and we finalize the destinations we are going to travel to during the coming year. The idea for this month is: What is one of your favorite destinations and favorite image from that location.
It doesn't have to be exotic but there are enough well traveled people in this forum that I don't doubt there will be some amazing places to add to my bucket list.
Wow, it's so hard to choose just one area! Sorry mods, but i've got to go with 2.
I recently discovered the delights of the Pacific Northwest, particularly the Columbia River Gorge and Palouse areas. I love the greenery and mist in the CRG and the waterfalls make me absolutely giddy! The Palouse holds great memories of rolling farmland, a pallet of colorful fields, old farmhouses, and of course some delicious local wines. It's a simple place with a lot to offer the artist.
Here is an image that reminds me of Tuscany. It's somewhere in eastern Washington/Palouse. This isn't a favorite image, but many of you have seen a couple of my other favorites I posted last spring. If not, you can check them out here.
China was great last year and will be great again this year. Here is one from the 87th floor of the Shanghai World Financial Center looking over the Shanghai Bund and the JinMao building. The image has the feeling of a circa 1950's NYC skyline shot to me.
I'm drawn back again and again to Yellowstone and the Tetons. Took my daughter there last year for her graduation trip and she's bugging me almost daily to go back again.....maybe if she twists my arm just a little more
Cedar Mesa in SE Utah is one of my favorite places to explore. Some of the lesser known canyons have only faint trails, and in some places, you won't even see traces of footprints. There are numerous side canyons with hidden puebloan ruins, and ancient rock art. Its a rugged, quiet, restorative place that always fulfills my need for nature's touch.

My favorite destination has been Iceland, I spend 3 weeks exploring this incredible island a few years ago. This is a place called Jokulsarlon, which means glacier lagoon in Icelandic. The largest glacier in Europe calves icebergs into the lagoon. This was taken at 11:00PM on the summer solstice. My brother and I were the only ones there and we camped near the shore. Probably my favorite campsite ever!
Ironically, the site of a dormant volcano near the shores of Lake Atitlán in often turbulent Guatemala is one of the more peaceful spots I've ever been.
My favorite place for photography is a little closer to home. My first weekend photo trip after I bought a DSLR was to this weird sandstone area atop the Vermilion Cliffs, and each time I go to there, I wonder if the truck will make it back up the sandy hill without getting stuck. Here is an image taken at dusk from that first trip; it remains one of my personal favorite images.
One of my favorate places is the Snowy Range in Wyoming. There is a hillside on the southeast side of Lookout Lake that is covered in columbines. This image was taken in late July.
This is my favorite shot from Patagonia. I'm heading back there for 3 months later this year! The plan is to explore a whole lot of new places, not just the uber-famous Fitz Roy and Torres del Paine ranges, though I will surely spent a couple weeks there again at some point!
I'll add one more spot. This is a shot from Western Samoa taken at Taufua Beach Fales. In September 2009, seven months after I took this, a tsunami completely destroyed this entire coastline. Sadly, 13 members of the Taufua family died, along with several of the visitors.
Amazingly, they rebuilt the fales and were open again 4 months later. Today, they've almost completely rebuilt. This was one of the most remarkable places I've ever stayed. It's not yet overrun by tourism and the buildings are incredibly beautiful. I stayed in a large enclosed fale and got all-you-can eat breakfast and dinner with great food, all for $30/day. And I could walk out a few feet to the ocean to the best snorkeling location I've ever seen.
Talk about an amazing collection of work! Oh, Mommy! Every one of these is a stunner!
This shot is from the most amazing place I have ever seen. The Na Pali coast of Kauai, Hawaii. Cliffs rising 3000' out of the ocean. This particular view was seen in the 70's version of King Kong with Jeff Bridges. I took this on a power catamaran dinner cruise in 2003.
What an awesome collection of images! This is a destination image from a trip that was 3 months in planning stages. Actually, this is a bonus image from an un-named side road location in Washington. I don't post to this topic part of the forum often but I need to get more involved. Enjoy!

I left only a sliver of sky in this image, as the overcast skies were uninspiring, but I liked the effect of the muted light on this sandstone.
