I recently had most of my photo equipment stolen from my car in McMinnville, Oregon. It was all insured. The only unique item was the Minolta f4 600. They haven't been made in about 10 years and I don't think many people shoot them. If anyone is looking for used equipment on Craigslist or eBay and comes across a Minolta 600 would you let me know? It may help track down whover did it. Thanks.
I just googled the Minolta f4 600 and got this. Seller is in Japan so almost certainly not your lens, but it might be a good idea to google the lens every so often.
Well Pete I feel for you. I had the same experience several years back while shooting Great Gray Owls in Canada. Hopefully your insurance company won't drop you like mine did with me when my equipment got stolen outside of Montreal. You do good for 22 years, shell out the cash, pay on time.... and then....whammmo, you're of no use to them anymore!! It took me 2 years to get another policy!! I had to prove myself.
Pete -SO sorry!
At least you had insurance. Too many of us get insurance only AFTER a major loss. It's a small price to pay for peace of mind.
I'd suggest calling KEH, Adorama, and Cameta and maybe the major pawn shops in Salem and Portland, and giving them serial numbers - these are the places a thief might try to sell used stuff.
Good luck - hope you get the settlement soon and can find some joy in the new stuff.
I had my photography laptop stolen last December from my car during our move from MA to NH. My new laptop now has Lo Jack. Too bad we can't have Lo Jack installed on all our camera equipment as well. Police said if I had Lo Jack on the stolen computer they would have a chance at finding the thief (thieves). Insurance paid for the replacement which now has Lo Jack. Sorry for your loss as well. I also lost several hard drives. Most where backed up 2X but the recent images from the month before were not. Lesson learned for me. I had home owner's insurance on all my photo stuff but I am going to get insurance through NANPA since I had to prove I was not a professional photographer. I am not... but the insurance company googled my name and found I was a moderator on NPN.
So sorry to hear that, Pete. Glad it was all insured.
It may just be a coincidence but I seem to hear about similar thefts in Oregon (and especially in the Gorge) more often than in other places. I wonder if others feel it truly is more pervasive there.
