MESA ARCH--but a little different feeling........ So how many times can one shoot Meas Arch. I never get tired of seeing sunrises here, but I am always looking for a different way to photograph this magnificent arch in Canyonlands NP, Utah since it's been shot so many different ways over the years.I was there on 2 consecutive days with average light, so I tried something different, knowing how I wanted to process the final shot.
This time I decided to accentuate the... foreground rocks, just as much as the light that glows under the arch at sunrise, along with the monoliths and canyons in the background.
To finally add something special, I used a slight "Glamor Glow", almosty an Orton effect ( but not quite!) in Nik Softwares Color eFex 3.0 program to add a little "dreamy" effect.

I like this one Jack. It's a little different from most of the compositions from this location. The slight "glamor glow" looks like a good choice to me.
Wow, this is very cool Jack. I like the fg rocks as the main subject. The orange light rflected off the arch seems a little hot but not blown out. I've seen the Nik glamour glow used to very nice effect and this is another example.
Excellent. I like the tighter comp very much. The glow under the arch is red-hot and the rocks below it add interest. There's just enough of the background to give a sense of depth and some scale and to see the quality of light. A refreshing view of this scenic arch, Jack. Nicely done on comp and processing.
Great stuff Jack! I agree about the orange losing a bit of detail (at least on this work monitor), but everything else is outstanding. It's hard to get a fresh take on such a familiar site, but I love the angle you chose and the way the sunlight streaming in through the haze gives a misty affect to the distance.
