Since NPN changed format, to one where you have to be a paying member to contribute, life has been a lot easier of us moderators. The ambience of the forum has been good and we have attracted a good number of new members. This is good and productive.

However recently, and unintentionally so there is no ‘witch hunt’ on this, we have had a couple of threads that have potentially strayed towards the unsavoury realms of defamation.

NPN/UKNP cannot allow that happen for a host of reasons (legal and otherwise) but a main reason is that NPN/UKNP prides itself on the congenial nature of our forums and such behaviour is not welcomed and therefore the moderators of UKNP will simply remove such behaviour when we recognize it as such. This applies regardless of whether the behaviour is overt or covert.

Basically, if you feel you must point out some aspect of somebodies life/actions/behavior/ethics in a detrimental manner (construed, inferred or otherwise)… please do so on your own website and not on ours! This includes any links to external websites carrying such stories. We really do take a very dim (to extinguished ) view of anybody who tries to use NPN/UKNP as a public arbitrator/enquiry/jury of, or for, anybody, on any legal activity; even more so if legal proceedings have ben instigated.

To date we have been quite congenial in how we have dealt with these type of situations, in that we have removed/altered the post and subsequently contacted both parties to explain our reasons and this has at times lead to a protracted conversation. Unfortunately due to family and work pressures we now cannot do that and we will simply delete/alter the post.

Please ( and this should be obvious), if a moderator alters of deletes one of your posts don’t re-alter it back or repost it again –forum glitches aside – trust me, if you post disappears either you or a moderator has removed it and (as the guidelines state) if we have to continually moderate your content or, ultimately, if your posts continually disappear then you can expect to follow them.

Finally, and this happens from time to time, there appears to be a misconception among some, that NPN/UKNP is a 'speak easy'; it is not.

Sorry for having to write this for those that already understand…

Cheers

T

PS Interestingly, with respect to a forum, due to a high courts decision in 2008, my understanding is that a forum (bulletin board) is more likely to be slander than libel even though it is written.
