It may be old news to most of you by now, but I came home from a quick trip around Yosemite to find THIS announcement from the CA State Parks. I haven't been able to find any specifics about the closures, but some standout parks on the list are Mono Lake, and a personal favorite of mine, Garrapata just north of Big Sur. No matter your political stance, it's a real shame that we've gotten to this point. I did find THIS site for people to voice their concern, and I encourage everyone to do so if you're so motivated. If you have any further details of any of these closures, I'd love to hear them. Also, if you have any images from any of the parks on the list, please feel free to post them, either here in a reply (if you're able) or in the CANP Gallery.

Yeah, it's sickening.
From the SF Chronicle:

I also encourage people to write and protest.

Unfortunately this is another example of the bureaucracy squeezing the little men and women for more money. Well if we threaten to take this away they'll let us raise fees or taxes ( on the general public god forbid we tax the rich or profit bloated corporations like the oil companies ) . And if it does happen the Republicans will just blame the Democrats and the Democrats will do the same, business as usual.

I posted a series of links about the state park closures that you find here: http://naturalhistorywanderings.com/2011/05/14/california-proposed-closing-70-state-parks/

Here is a link from the California Parks Foundation that you can use to
contact the legislature. You can take action here:
http://my.calparks.org/site/Advocacy?pagename=homepage&id=289
by sending your legislators a letter telling them that you do not support
the closure of state parks.

I have often wondered why the income/sales tax that California collects from its residents is never enough. How much more is required to quench the thirst of the corrupt and greedy govt. whose only goal seems to be to run a great state into the ground. We have the worst roads, the worst schools, .......
