I drove by Smith Rock and Lake Billy Chinook last month on my way out to Prineville and the Painted Hills. I didn't take many shots (just reconnaisance mostly) but I got two decent ones.
The first is from a less visited corner of Smith Rock.
Nice Marylynne. I get down to that area ever so often and I never considered Lake Billy as a photo op. I'm rethinking that now. Although the fg does'nt do much for me the mid and bg's are spectacular.
Me like Bruce never considered Lake Billy Chinook to be a good place to shoot. I think you show here that it is a good place. I think this is nice and well balanced with good lighting. Very cool!
Thanks, everyone. I had planned to take pictures of Jefferson from the reservation, but the clouds covered the mountains the whole day, so I went places where I could look down.
Can you all see the Smith Rock shot? Catherine's post indicates it didn't get loaded, but it is loaded when I view the page.

I like both of these images Marylynne. The composition of the Smith Rock shot is excellent with the river cutting through the frame diagonally. Looks like there are definitely some photo ops at Lake Billy Chinook as well. Thanks for sharing.
Great locations Marylynne. Thanks for the heads up on Lake Billy; I've never been there. If you can ever catch these same shots at sunrise/sunset, that would be amazing.
