I drove up RRR to see the Spring Snow yesterday--it was lovely (fun ride down too through the mud--nearly slid off the cliff!) and since i was stuck in the fog, i experimented with some negative space. Am curious if this shot works for you or not??
Becaus of the tree in the lower RH. there's just enough depth to make the negative space work great. I really want to know what's in the abyss.... and I'm glad it's not you.
Sorry Stan, I don't think it works, to me the negative space isn't adding anything to the composition. Glad to here you stayed on the road, I've had that happen off-road a couple times, it'll certainly get the adrenaline pumping!
It works for me, Stan. If you added a corner vignette (there appears to be a slight one), I'd increase it. If you didn't, I'd add one. That would kind of zero in the viewer's choice when looking into the abyss.
For me, those wind misshapen trees bending backwards are what makes the empty space so critical to the image.
I like this one a lot! I hate to pile on, but this one easily trumps the image you posted in the 'Landscape' gallery.
Definitely works, Stan. Without the empty space, it would be just a ho-hum image. And, to borrow a line from a long ago cop show on TV, "Be careful out there."
The negative space works for me! I'b a big fan of negative space, even though I have a bad habit of trying to cram too much into the frame in my own work.
