Lonely At The Top
The top of Shafer Canyon, that is.
I've been to this vantage point/campsite a half dozen times waiting for the light and have never seen a soul, unlike the much busier Island in the Sky (Canyonlands) and Dead Horse Point S.P., both less than a mile away.

This was taken at sunset last night...

...and one from sunrise this morning at a completely different vantage a few hundred yards away.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

This is beautiful, John! Amazing light and a lovely scene. This looks an awful lot like Marlboro Point, but from the other side. Wondering if it's one and the same?

You added the 2nd pic while I was typing this. I like it even better than the 1st, which is already a killer photo!

Thanks, Bret! This is indeed Marlboro Country.

I thought it would be a great place to witness the Rapture.

Really great work John. #1 is good, but #2 is absolutely stunning. Nice blend and everything is sharp throughout.

Wow! What a great view! Both images rock, but I really like #2. The light is beautifully shown by your great comp!

Nice warm light on the thin buttes in both images. Preference definitely to #2 in that the far cliffs have soft light, the two near buttes have a little more separation, and more interesting the cloud structure.

The second one is fabulous! I love the lines in the rock and sky as well as the wonderful contrast of the green tree. Great stuff John!

Really like! Great compositions, light, depth, etc. :toast:

Great location and beautiful shots. #2 is a real keeper. Nice job all around.

These are both wonderful, John. I love this kind of lighting. IMO, the sky is what brings #2 together. Well done.

Great work, John. The lighting and composition make great images. A nit: check your horizon on #1 to see if it is level.

Great ! I also like the second one more than the first. Wonderful sky as well, do you have one with a little bit more sky ?

I love number 2! The clouds are more interesting and the tree adds more depth. Great job!

I was all prepared to tell you I like everything about this photo, then I scrolled down and saw the second one, which is even better. Fantastic x 2!

I looked at these on my phone the 1st time and waited to view them on a good display before commenting - what a treat! I'm giving 1 a slight edge over 2 - such a big, open-country view of Canyonlands! Both are composed and photographed (and processed) remarkably well.

Love #2. Maybe dodge the tree just ever so slightly to break it away from the background. Beautiful job on both!

John...these are simply KILLER! I really like the first one, but the second one us over the top awesome for me.

Hi John - It was great to meet you in Moab at the Spring Fling. Thanks for bringing the delicious cake!

These are both beautiful images, but the second one is stunning. I looked at it yesterday and it kept on popping into my mind today. I really like the composition and the processing is perfect. The tree, the lighting, the clouds - everything comes together so nicely.

Fantastic John. I love them both.
