A company approached me about using one of my images on a trade show display. I've got the compensation part worked out, but I'm wondering about usage rights. Is is reasonable to ask them to display my copyright? Does there need to be any specific language in the contract about me using them as a reference?
Thanks for any and all tips.
Paul
I would work out both issues specifically in the contract. Generally if they give you a credit the compensation will be a bit lower. I don't think they'd mind you using them as a reference, but getting it spelled out explicitly means you're not left guessing on how they'd take it.
Paul - for commercial use there usually is no photo credit. But if you DO want a credit, you can certainly ask for it and include this in your contract. Everything is negotiable.
It am not the authority at licensing, but make sure you:
a. specify the duration of use of the image
b. be specific as to the usage (ex: a trade show display)
c. be specific whether the image license is exclusive (you cannot license the image to anyone else), or non-exclusive (you may license the image for other usages).

It's always great to hear when some makes a sale. It is very rewarding to not only see your images published, but also to get some money for them.
