I actually got the sun to peek out for a very short period of time on Saturday and Sunday mornings. I spent Saturday close by around Chatfield and then Sunday morning out at Pawnee National Grasslands.
Kurt, Every one of these is terrific!!
I especially like the kingbird..

What I like is the soft backgrounds and the stump or fence-post perches. Pawnee & plains gives you enough space and distance to help with isolating your subject. I'm guessing 500mm lens?
Next time, get a burrowing owl! Try along Rd 100 halfway between Crow valley and Pawnee.
Thanks Tom. I have a spot also for Burrowing Owls at Pawnee, but I only saw 3 of them and all at a distance (I waited over an hour). I think the weather has kept them at bay, but in a couple weeks, they should be more plentiful.
Kurt, you are amazing. Everyone of these is fantastic. Hey, I read that Pawnee Buttes were closed until June. Is there an area you can get into before then?
Rod, I never heard that. There were even campers everywhere. I do know they close a couple roads each year because of some certain nesting breeds, but other than that, it is open year round from what I have seen.
Heh heh....coming from anyone else, I might have just groaned (the expected reply, right?).
But coming from you, I open the post with great haste! And I wasn't disappointed. I just love the quality and variety of birds (and mammal) that you captured here. That smooth background you always seem to capture really makes these special. I like every single one of these, Kurt.
And of course, I have to leave some feedback. The hawk and bunting shots are slighly underexposed (see your histogram).
You also might consider cropping off the top bright area of the hawk image as it slightly detracts from the beauty of that bird.
Professional caliber work that is a sheer pleasure to view! Thanks for sharing these with us wildlife deprived folks.
