The Great East Temple, Zion NP
Finally finishing up a few of my shots from Zion NP from a fw weeks ago. Zion is incredibly beautiful, so much so, that I'm headed back this weekend for another shooting. Boy I wish Colorado had stuff like Zion.

The photo was shot south of the East Temple, from the narrow north ridge of "Destination Peak."

Kane,

Well, if that's what you passed up a bland morning at Canyonlands for, there's no way I'd blame you. Congratulations on both some great light and a unique perspective. Excellent overall.

I'm likely headed down there in a couple of weeks, if want to get in some hiking and trade locations...

Enjoy,
Mark.

Kane,
Very nice shot. I plan to go there some day. Beautiful foreground leading to a spectacular sunset!! Can't wait to see what you come up with on your next visit.

Great comp, great view and great clouds, Kane! If it were mine, I'd look at some dodging of the stone (through some kind of Lights Mask a la Tony Kuyper) to try and bring out some more tonal contrast in the landscape. You've got plenty of detail in there, but it's a little undifferentiated as is. I think some subtle lightening of selected tones could work wonders here.

Beautiful shot Kane. I love Zion too. I have not been to Destination Peak. I guess I better go next time. Thanks for sharing an incredible image.

Great sky, excellent comp, but just a little dark on my monitor. And what? No 1000' drop off on either side? You're slacking.

Kane, this one just isn't working for me. The sky is spectacular, but the mid ground is a black hole and the foreground, especially without any nice light, isn't holding my interest. I had similar feelings about David K's post. I think some creative processing could remedy this though.

I'm sorry Kane, but this was my exact same reaction. I'm not hesitant to tell you this because your work is usually exemplary and I know you would appreciate my honest reaction.

Thanks all for the comments. I do think the image is coming across too dark and should have noticed that before posting. I thought I had the correct exposure on this one until downsizing the image. Not really sure what happened.

Hi Kane - I like the composition and find that it has many compelling elements. I agree with the comments about the processing - some lightening could help bring some more depth to the image so some of the beautiful details stand out a bit more. Hope you are enjoying your time there this weekend.

Great sky, but the rest looks really underexposed. Looks like a great location with the curved foreground ridge for a lead-in.
