Had a friend send me this link to "fracture" prints: http://www.fractureme.com/.
The idea looks pretty neat, but I'm wondering if anyone here has had this done, and what opinions there may be of them...
Hmmmm, I've not done this or know anyone who has. I'm sure it looks nice but it *is* glass and the fact that they call it "fracture" is a bit scarey. I didn't delve too far into it...is it glass glass or some sort of strengthened super glass???
Good questions, Pam and Howard.
They do say that it is "safer" than an ordinary glass frame and more shatter resistant.
Apparently there is a backing of some sort that has keyholes in it for hanging. The printing is also done on the back of the glass, so it can't be scratched, etc. They also do offer a life-time guarantee against breaking...
They're certainly not expensive, so I may order one and see what it looks like,
I was curious as well and looking for an inexpensive sale item for my art shows so I ordered one a little while back. All in all, I wasn't too impressed. So so print quality along with a decidedly yellow color cast (there's no color soft-proofing available) kept me from pursuing this alternative any further. My opinion is that its kind of a neat finishing option for casual photographers just looking for a cheap way to hang shots of the family, friends, etc. It's not a very good option for anyone looking for an alternative mount for fine art work, IMO.
