Gull ID
I have looked at a ton of gulls and I think this is a immature gull but not sure which one. He is big 4.5 to 5 foot wing span.

Looks like a tube-nose. Howzabout a big shearwater or petrel rather than a gull? I'm lookin' t'learn!
Naah....scratch petrel...too big...
I'll stick w/ one of the big shearwaters. When I can get to Sibley I might refine that a bit.

My vote is a first winter Ring-billed Gull moving into summer plumage. I'm relying the neck, the extensive checkering on the breast and the pale mid-wing panels.

But without the date and location of the photo, and some alternate views, it's just a guess Doug.

I'll stand by my Ring-billed Gull call, and add that sub-adult Ring-bills hang out on the mid-Atlantic seaboard. YMMV.
