A friend at work is thinking of going to Havasu Falls and was asking me what I know about it. Since I've never been there the answer was simple: Nothing. But I did tell him I have a great source of information (that would be you all) and would see what I can find out.
He knows about the flooding last year but he's been reading reviews online detailing shootouts with Native Americans and other scary stuff. First I've heard of that but who knows?
Anyone here been down to Havasu Falls recently and have comments on it? Thanks in advance.
I haven't been to Havasu Falls (yet, but hopefully soon), but I did recently spend a week working on a public outreach program which included a large group of Havasupai. They are wonderful people. I think that as long as you are respectful and keep in mind that you are visiting their home everything will be just fine.

Alexsandra has a beautiful shot of it from a couple years ago before the flood. She can give you info on how to get in there and the guides and all that stuff. Hope she reads this or you can get to her on FB if she's on your friends list.
Have your friend consider buying the excellent guidebook titled 'Exploring Havasupai' before he goes. I'm aware of the incidents that he's outlined to you, but they're isolated. You're still far safer down there than in many urban areas in the U.S.
Book your lodging/campsite far in advance and expect to have your tent touching strangers' tent and hearing everyone snore in unison. Stay at least 2 nights preferably more to really enjoy the place. Consider hiring horses for the way out, it was by far the most fun I ever had riding and it makes the 12-mile hike out a lot more pleasurable. Going full-on sprint through the canyon is something childhood fantasies are made of.
I can't think of much else and it's been a few years since I was there but if I think of anything else I'll shoot you an email.
