Has anyone done any camping at Blue Lakes towards the end of Sept? Trying to plan a trip there for last week in Sept. and am trying to plan for the appropriate gear. Specifically what temp bag I'd need.
Thanks

Hi Luke, I've been up there in mid September: http://www.widerange.org/gallery/blue-lakes-september/ Aside from an insane thunderstorm that lasted all night, it was totally doable and I had the same 15º bad I use in the summer. Of course, sometimes there are September dumps that would make it more like a winter trip... just depends on the year. It's really spectacular up there when the tundra is changing colors!
Luke, I'm unsure which Blue Lakes your speaking to. If you're talking the lakes that reside in the Mt Sneffles area then I would recommend a 0 down bag. Synthetic bags work fine too. That's my "perfect world" choice. However it doesn't mean another bag won't keep you warm. Heck you could bring a 25 degree back and sleep in a down jacket and likely be good to go. What bag to you currently own?

Jack - thanks, love your images of that area!
Kane - I currently only have a 30 bag, so planning on picking up a colder one.
You didn't ask for a recommendation, but here's one that I've been looking at. 20% off that price this week, too. A great deal if you don't want to pay hundreds of dollars more to save a few ounces.
I used a +30 bag a week after Labor Day once and had no problems. If a big storm hit, it might be a problem, but you'd have at least a little idea it was coming before you left.

No connection to REI rather than as a satisfied customer. Just a gear freak.
