...you MUST make the pilgrimage to Rogers, AR, and see Ed Cooley's amazing new White River Gallery. It sets a new standard for eloquent, high-end photo galleries. Plus, when you put a 45-mp back in the hands of an artiste and technician of Ed's caliber, the results are a sight to behold. His images from around the world - Australia, the Antarctic, the Southwest, Colorado and, of course, Arkansas -- are displayed huge (I refer to his photos as life-size), and you feel like you could walk right into the scenes.

With that as preamble, here's a couple of shots from my brief shooting window. the first being King River Falls. I learned that it really matters when you go to shoot waterfalls in this region. If it's been relatively dry, the rivers and creeks in the area pretty much dry up. Luckily we found a few places with at least a little flow.

#2: And some flowers along the trail.

#3: Ed had family obligations, so my other dear Arkansan friend Dottie Lloyd and I headed down to Petit Jean State Park. Here's one from there. I added a little bit of Color Efex Pro tonal contrast to the image.

#4: I have more images to work up when I have time, but with a move this week and lots of other stuff to do, I'll need to get to them later. Here's a shot of Mariquita Peak in the Culebra Range from yesterday morning. The closure of I-25 over Raton Pass added a wrinkle to the drive home, but once in Trinidad, I headed west for the night and awoke to this scene.

Beautiful work Todd. I really like #1 and the mesmerizing feeling it gives me. A place I'd like to experience!

Sounds like you had a great time in our state! I am sure Dottie showed you some good spots and you most likely got to experience our humidity this time of year! If you ever make it back to Arkansas, let me know, I would love to hook up with you and your camera.

All great shots but the flower shot is my favorite!

Todd,
I like most the bridge view of #3 with the thin falls.
#4 is a great view to wake up to.
It could be my monitor, but #4 looks to be too warm and orange in the snow, where #1 has a green tint effecting the rock and falls.

How was the drive back in your new white jeep?

Arkansas has much to offer the serious photographer. The color is amazing in the fall, and it follows fall in Colorado. That makes it possibe to make both, which I always try to do. Guys like Ed, Tom Kennon, Bill Dark and Tim Ernst all have wonderful works of the Ozarks, so check out their websites. Tim has written numerous guide books on the area which are indespensibe if you plan to visit. If you like waterfalls, you'll love Arkansas.

Yes Tom he did experience our humidity. And at one point he mentioned how nice it was.....hahaha! Todd, were you able to take home any of our chiggers? I really like the flowers. Being right there on the scene, I can see you made them come alive in this shot! Got o our forum to see my take on the Davies Bridge.

Great stuff, Todd! I like 1 and 3 the most. I was in Arkansas for about 10 days last fall chasing nonexistent waterfalls! The fall colors were awesome though. Almost no water flowing at Petit Jean or Twin Falls near Richland Creek but it was a beautiful area and I would like to return some day. I liked the Blanchard Springs area the most. Very beautiful.

Todd,
That is as low as I have ever seen Kings River Falls. Go to Tim Ernsts site and look at several of his shots of those falls...recently he had a killer night shot that was just spot on gorgeous.....http://www.buffalorivergallery.com/displayimage.php?album=117&pos=51

Waterfalls in AR run from Jan thru May if there has been enough rain. Once the trees leaf out it takes a really good rain to get them running and you probably only have 2-3 days but those days can be magic.

I'm not wild about #'s 1 & 4, butI think that #'s 2 & 3 are spectacular!
Moving, eh? To Arkansas?

I think sometimes we all get locked into the Rockies and the Colorado Plateau and forget that there are some other amazing places to create wonderful images. Thanks for sharing these, Todd. The Ozarks have been on my list for a long time for a fall color trip. Maybe next year.

Of this set #3 is my favorite. I can only imagine how it would look with more flow.

Hey Rich, I've got family near Rogers, AR that we visit occasionally. The drive from Parker is a total of about 850 miles. We usually do an overnight in Wichita where my sisters live. From Rogers it's about another 150 or 175 miles down to Petit Jean where Todd found the Davies Bridge.

If anyone ever wants to come out to Arkansas, let us know and we will arrange a tour of the best spots in the area. The best time is spring and fall. It is a real plus if the creeks and waterfalls are running. This time of year it is hot and dry and the chiggers, ticks, and snakes are out in force! That is why I am heading to Colorado on Sunday!
