I found this Green Heron at Brazos Bend this weekend (just SW of Houston).
Here he is helping a frog across an alligator infested pond.
A perfect example of Texas hospitality - always willing to lend a helping beak.
1000mm, 1/1250sec, ISO 800, f/8
Handheld out of desperation because I couldn't extend the tripod legs fast enough or take off the 2x TC. Had to change memory cards and reformat after the first picture. I'm still amazed that I got anything worth posting!

Thanks, Darren.
Well the heron did transport the frog across the alligator infested pond - for lunch.

Bill-
While I am not generally a huge fan of wildlife photography, I have to say that's one of the best shots I've seen! I expect you can get it published; not least in Outdoor Photographer or Popular Photography, where they invite submissions. Kudos!!

wow! Very very very nice capture. Kudos! That frog has the "Oh crap...this isn't gonna be fun" look on his face.
Wow! I'm speechless. This is just perfect (funny and sad, all at the same time).

Bill - great shot, good experience for you and bad experience for the frog.
I'm looking forward to shooting a Brazos Bend in a few weeks. This really wets my appetite.

wow - let us know what magazine this ends up in. I think this has an edge over the link that Scott provided because you can see the frog's face/eyes in your shot. (The frog doesn't look to enthused though!) Very nice!

Man, this should win an award! Awesome!

Excellent! Not to be anthropomorphic, but what expressions they both have!
Bird: "Oh yes! This is going to be good!"
Frog: "Oh crap, I'm history..."

Thanks for all the generous compliments! Opening the image in PS and seeing that I actually had something in focus was a big thrill. I'm sure if someone had been videotaping my efforts to get this shot, it would have ended up on America's Funniest.

Super Sweet shot, Bill. I'm with Nat - this should have no trouble getting published if your're so inclined. Amazing!

The froggie has that look on his/her face that says...""OK - you got me - whats next, dude?"
