Anyone familiar with the Vanguard? We need to add a couple of more tripods to our spread, and the features don't look bad at all. At roughly have the price of our usual Gitzo, they certainly have our attention.

Hey Hank, also check out the Feisol line up. Like the Vanguards, good quality carbon fiber tripods at a much lower price point then the Gitzos. I been using the Feisols for a couple years and really like them. www.feisol.net/
Yeah, I've read all about the Feisols and heard good reports. The Vanguards have my curiosity up, and I'd like to see how they compete.
Since I'm a writer and OWAA member, perhaps I'll request a loaner for a test run.

Have not heard of a vangard. I've seen a lot of posts about Feisol, but seem very split. A few guys that use them hard have been reporting they break at the web. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showpost.php?p=11171175&postcount=23 I use a Gitzo 1325 as my main tripod, and a new Benro Travel Angel as my travel triopod. The Benro gets very good reviews too, but it's no Gitzo.

Feisol fan here too. (for the relatively few times I use a tripod)
