This is one of the three young little green herons that are headquartered in a tree right next to my backyard. These images are actually on the other side of the tree, in a neighbor's backyard. This young green heron has become quite proficient at catching dragonflies.
I brightened the dragonfly's head and body so that maybe you could see it, but it's to the left of the first two images and in the heron's mouth in the third image. The images are full frame. I did use a tripod.
I posted these here because it's a series, and I think that's one of the reasons listed for posting images in the forums, and I'll be posting a different image tomorrow morning in the critique gallery. These have grass in front, as you can see, but the heron came directly toward me very quickly and I didn't want to move.
I've really enjoyed spending time with these little birds for a few days. I wish they would all live to adulthood.
IMHO you have a very interesting series of images. This must have been an exciting event for you, glad you were able to capture this behavior and share it with everyone.
Thank you very much for the comment, John. It was really something I think I'll always remember.

A brief series like yours captures an event of time ...of life...intent...success..survival...as no individual image, however perfectly crafted, ever can. Thanks so much for sharing your success!
