On Monday I headed to the Dunes for a quick overnighter. I hiked in at about 10pm, slept on a dune for about 4 hours, then woke up around 3:30am to shoot the setting (nearly full) moon, followed by sunrise.
I had a blast out there with the camera... so much fun! And the hike out with Pink Floyd Meddle playing on my iPod was pretty groovy too!
Fantastic images Jack. Love the first one presented here. I love the layering and lines here. I almost want to see a little more of that deep indigo at the top, but your comp is so excellent already
Really like the first one on your site as well, that goes perfectly with some Floyd, especially Meddle.
Beautiful collection! The blue moon image is incredible. They are all excellent. (IMHO)

Jack, I like both images posted here. However, the rich colors of those on your website, the moonlit #2 in particular, are absolutely outstanding. The moonset is a fine one too.
What.....you got sick of hiking in the mountains in the snow and needed some sand........are you feeling ok???

Hi Jack - what a wonderful collection of images! My favorites are the first two on your website and the two above. I really love the first one on your site. Everything about it is really appealing to me. I also really like first start shot, as well. Beautiful work.
Nice series, Jack. I like the more "abstracty" images the best, because I really think you have some unique takes. Looks like you had some nice conditions as well -- hopefully not too sandblasted!
Jody - My plan initially was to do a big hike in the Uncompahgre mountains, but I got denied by snowpack on the two roads in there. I actually got my truck stuck in the snow THREE times trying to get in there. (stupid ) So after spending hours digging my truck out over and over again, I decided it wasn't meant to be and I headed to the dunes as a backup plan. Thus my 10pm hike in!
Paul - It was pretty windy that day, but the winds calmed down at night (as often happens there) so the whole time I was in the dunes was mellow.

Jack, They're all fantastic but I think I like Dunes Sunset the best. Probably sounds goofy but it looks celestial, almost like the edge of a universe. Great mood, color and feel.

Here are two of my faves, but please check out the full batch here: http://www.mountainphotographer.com/a-night-in-the-dunes/
Any and all comment and critiques are welcome! Thanks for looking.
Of these two, I love the blue dunes shot, Jack. But your star shots and that full moonset over Alamosa are mind-bogglingly great.

I like 'two ripples' the best, followed by the two here.
