Snowy Range sunrise Sat morning
I went to the Snowys Friday night. I had stopped in Laramie to get some groceries, and when I left town, calculated that I wasn't quite going to make sunset. I drove up 130 and when I got near the top, the post sunset color went CRAZY. I'd never been there, and was obsessed with getting to the water. I drove past the overlook pullout, dismissing it and pushing for the water. Problem being, once I got to the lake area, they were mostly solid. I turned around and raced back to the overlook, only to have the color die out. The old saying, "A bird in hand is worth two in the bush" can easily be applied here. A shot in the camera is worth two in your mind.

Anyways, after being mad at myself, I settled in for the night. I got up and somewhat redeemed myself at sunrise. CC welcome as always.

Great shot Joshua! I have learned over the years that many times when you have a great sunset, you can count on a good sunrise. Apparently this was the case for you. It is currently snowing in summit county- maybe some Lupine and mules ears with snow this a.m.

Beautiful Joshua, nothing in my mind to fault this image. :toast:

Great shot, Joshua! And certainly a nice consolation prize. I know the feeling all too well of missing a great photo opportunity, all the worse when you could have gotten it but missed it because you stubbornly tried to get to the "perfect" spot while the light is going off. Best to get at least one shot off while the light is good. But I never seem to learn this lesson myself...

Yeah, I'd say redemption was found in the morning. Excellent shot! Just remember, don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

Lighting looks great Joshua. I know the feeling about being rushed to get a comp, and hate that. I would consider cropping out the bit of tree sticking into the frame at the ULC.

Gorgeous shot Joshua. I agree with Koveh on the tree. Otherwise this is one beautiful composition with wonderful color.

Nice work Joshua, I was planning on going up there over the 4th, how deep is the snow?

Beautiful shot, Joshua. That's the kind of scene that makes me wish I were there. No nits, other than cloning out that branch.

Very nice, Joshua! I'm with Rick about cloning out the branch.

Great image. Love the colors. Looks like it may be a late wildflower season.

Very well redeemed! I think almost everyone has done the same thing; I know I have! I guess that is what keeps us coming back over and over again, right?

Thanks everybody for the feedback and kind words. I meant to clone out that tree poking in the ULC, but spaced it out during post. I'll make sure to do that before printing.

It makes me feel a little better knowing I'm not the only fool blowing off good shots in chase of others.

David, the snow is pretty deep yet. There was a good 6-8 feet between the road and Lake Marie. The parking lot just south of Lake Marie, I'm thinking there was 15 feet in the north end of that lot. It towered over my Jeep.

Hi Joshua - We probably all know that frustrating feeling all too well. I know that I do. The photo you came home with is excellent. I like the way the cloud balances out the peaks on the left. Nice work!

Boy, do I love that area! And I love that you were able to get up there with all this snow, it really makes for a stunning shot.

This is excellent, Joshua! Great story to go with it, too. You certainly earned this bit of redemption.

Nice consolation shot Joshua, they don't cal it "Snowy Range" for nothing. I've been in the same boat before and I haven't seemed to learn my lesson :frown:
