Several weeks ago I posted in the Avian gallery a photo of a pair of bald eagles at the Miller Park Zoo in Central Illinois. The eagles appeared to be engaging in possible breeding behavior, but on the ground instead of in the air since neither one can fly. The eagles laid eggs again as they have done for several years, but never fertile ones. However when the zoo keeper pulled one of the eggs from the nest this year with the intent of preparing it to be used in education programs the egg turned out to be fertile! The zoos permit does not allow it to breed eagles so the eggs have to be pulled or shaken to avoid hatching. I guess it shows where there is a will there is a way. Just thought you might be interested.
