Up until last night, I knew zip about monsoon weather. I was checking weather forecast and noticed that NOAA has placed a short and informative slide show on their website with a 2011 monsoon update http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/twc. The link is at the top of the page and has audio and speaker notes embedded.

The page also has a 'monsoon tracker' tab linked to additional graphs. Overnight the dew point in Tucson jumped above the average trend line toward the 54 degrees line which is one of the markers indicating monsoon flow.

Hopefully a good monsoon season can help with the fire danger in some areas and not exacerbate it in others.

Thanks for the link, Bill. If you enjoy lightening as a subject for your photography, head for Tucson during "monsoon season".

Bill,

I have some time off in mid-July and if conditions are favorable, I'll be heading that way.

Looks like the link to the presentation has rolled off the above page. Here is a direct link:

yeah looks like the monsoon might kick in for us (SE CO) in a few days, even though it might only last a day or so with this first blast, hopefully its a sign of things to come in July and August

Great links, thanks for those. As a storm chase photographer I am planning on heading to AZ for lightning, including Grand Canyon and Monument Valley.
