Hey all of you 5d2 owners - I was out shooting some long exposures (ie more than 10 seconds) and occasionally my camera would fail to save to the card. In fact, it looked like it didn't even try and didn't even give me any sort of error. Have any of you experienced that before? I'm using firmware 2.0.4 and see that an update was released this month, but according to the changelist my issue is not mentioned.
I've done a lot of long exposures on the 5d II and have never had that problem. One 'duh moment' I've had is when I had the mirror lock up enabled and only hit the shutter release once. Then I waited thinking it should be exposing, when it had only locked up the mirror and I needed to hit the shutter again. That's probably not the problem here, but I thought I'd throw it out there just in case.
Grant - that's no the issue here, but a nice idea. I hope you weren't waiting too long before realizing it wasn't exposing!
Paul - I'm not home from the field yet so I haven't been able to load them on my computer. I didn't think to swap CF cards when this was happening, but the problem seems to have gone away - I was able to finish my shooting without any further issues. I'll check for file corruption when I get home.

Jon, you might want to consider upgrading the firmware. Sometimes problems are fixed but not noted in the release documents. Also check lens, cable and card connections.
John, I've done a lot of 30 second exposures with my 5dII and haven't had that problem. What card were you using? What is it's write speed? Did you have a chance to swap cards to see if you got different results?
CAZ, I was using a SanDisk Extreme IV with 45MB/s write speed and have never had a problem with it in the past. I'm currently in travel limbo and have not had a chance to try any other cards. Canon support is also asking the same question. I'll know more in a couple of days when I will have more time. Work seems to get in the way of life. :)
Hrm. I've spent some time trying to reproduce this and I cannot - not even with the same card! I also found no corrupted files on the card I used during my shoot either.
