I made this image of the first sunrise rays hitting Ice Mountain from a peak above Cottonwood Pass. Unfortunately there were no clouds, but I am reasonably happy with this image. Still a good bit of snow up there on the pass!
Steve, as a fan of this perspective of the great Ice Mountain (the best mountain in the Sawatch Range) I appreciate your effort to get this shot. The intermittent snow recovers the shadows well. However, I think the image needs to be cropped about 25-30%. I would show off the pointy Ice Mountain more and lose the uninteresting sky. Your current perspective works well with clouds. Also, look at your white balance. To me it looks way too cool. When adjusting your white balance focus in on your mountain snow, and set it to match the realistic look of the snow. Then go from there…
I loe the composition, Steve, but I agree with John about the processing. A little less green overall, and some added contrast in the mid-ground seem to be in order.
Even though the second one looks better than the first, that's kind of a back-handed compliment. Still something funky going on with the post-processing here, Steve. That tobacco-colored sky just ain't right. Both versions look over-manipulated, and are not on par with your usual excellence.

The light that morning was actually very strange, which I think was in part to the junk in the air from all the fires! I actually did very little processing to this i so I don't think it is overly "manipulated: just white balance adjustment and a bit of curves. Maybe I should just trash it. I admit I have much better Ice Mountain images.

I admit I did not spend a lot of time on processing this. Here is a "warmer" version, cropped with better contrast:
