I have a Canon 300 4.0 L lens that will not work in AF with my Canon 2.0 TC (type II, not the newest model)with my Canon 70D.

I was told there is a way to place tape over some of the contacts between the lens and TC to make it work in AF mode.

Is anyone familar with this and if should woulsd you please offer some guidance on this. Thank you & HAPPY 4TH OF JULY to all.

It's my understanding that Canon won't AF past f5.6 so the max TC your lense would work with is 1.4. Hope this helps.

Your Cannon body needs f5.6 or faster aperture to auto-focus. Your f4 lens plus the 2.0TC gives you f8. A Canon 1-series body will focus with f8.

Taping the pins fools the camera so it doesn't know that you're shooting at f8. Here is a link to a picture of the taped pins on a tele-converter. http://www.fredmiranda.com/TipsPage/example.html

Erik,

Yes I am aware of this and I knew that this was why my camera would not auto focus. THANK YOU.

Buck,

THank you for the info & link. I have heard in the past that this would work, but did not know what pins to tape. THANK YOU.
