I found this little prairie right in the middle of Fort Smith the other night by accident while on the way to pick up a BBQ sandwich. I was amazed at the expanse of Blazing Star. It may be a little past peek, but I will go back next year.
From what I have read these little prairies are getting harder and harder to find.
This image really pops for me. I know there is another prairie area east of you. The purple is beautiful, and the contrast against the green is pleasant to look at. I really like the capture of the sunset.
Looks like you had some great color here, Tom. Nice work with the processing too. Sunsets are difficult, for me anyway.
The "peak" bloom on the blazing star seems like a matter of percentages. I think there's always going to be a mixture of pre- and post-peak blooms in a wide angle shot.
This is a pretty cool little prairie. A fair amount of diversity among the forbes and grasses, and the mima (?) mounds suggest that it may be uncultivated. Nice find! It would be great if Ft. Smith could find the money to buy and preserve it.

Hey Tom, nice find and a wonderful image. Definitely looks like a great place to kick back with some BBQ and a cold one and watch the sunset. Have a great weekend!
