Haven't posted for a while so thought I'd see what your opinions were on this. Struggle with compositions of these types of shot and would appreciate comments. Just noticed it may be sloping

Made me smile - nicely captured moment. Think it would lend itself to a vertical crop very well. The slope isn't noticeable to me and I'm usually a stickler . At least you have the weekend to recover some sleep!!
Hi Grame, this is a very nice Grebe photo. I think you have a couple of cropping options. I like the idea of showing a lot of water in the FG, but then I would place the grebes way up in the upper left corner. There is also always the traditional vertical as well.
Hi Graeme,
Just to prove the obvious (that this game is very subjective), I will state my own personal preference!!!
Firstly, I love the symmetry of the birds and the colours are excellent against the dark water.
As to cropping, there is no real reflection to speak of so you could trim some off the bottom. I like the space on the left as that is where the birds are looking.
Anywhichway, I like it a lot!!!
Cheers,
Roy

Hi Graeme
Great shot - I really like it. Green with envy as I spent 3 days the other week after shots like this and failed. Great exposure and the composition is good, I don't think the image is sloping I think that is an illusion created by one bird being slightly in front of the other!

I dont think the image is sloping either, nice synchronization of the birds and a very good exposure!

Have you tried a panoramic crop yet? with the birds placed to the right, and empty space to the left where they are looking into....

I like this just as is and I think your exposure is spot on with excellent colours.
Best wishes
