Flowers and Sunsets
Last week my wife and I were with our son's family in Eagle for the Fourth of July. I spent a lot of time with grandbabies but did get out to do some shooting. The columbines were particularly nice in the Sylvan Lake State Park area.

#2 The surrounding vegetation was rich, green and lush.

I could be mistaken but I believe this flower is an Alpine Sunflower. I made this image up East Brush Creek Road.

There is an old corral on East Brush Creek Road that is really cool but, for me, unphotographable. I simply have never been able to make it look good. So I decided to feature some of its pieces. This I DO like.

I also found a considerable number of wild geraniums. This one was growing inside the old corral. Pretty little guy, eh?

I never made it to the waterfalls in the Flattops because Coffee Pot Road was blocked by a massive snowdrift. I did manage to witness a gorgeous sunset from near the snowdrift on Saturday evening.

My wife was with me as we drove down from the Flattops in the dark. We were still glowing from the sight of that sunset. It makes an old fella glad to still be alive.

Nice Rod. I like 1 and the 2 sunset shots. I was looking out at the Flattops from Steamboat. I was there in mid August a few years ago and it was already snowing at night on us. That is going to be a short summer out there.

great work all the way around Rod. I had plans of shooting the waterfalls as well. I should have checked the forest seervice website. It clearly states that the road is closed at crane park. I was really hoping to see a massive flow of water at the falls this year.

I really like that sunflower grouping you have! That sunset is to die for also! Looks like a good outing!

The alpine sunflower photo isn't alpine sunflower (I'm pretty sure), but it's by far my favorite of these. The sunsets are great, too.

I agree, the sunflower photo is really a great capture!

Nice series, Rod! I like #3 and the last sunset the most, but they are all nice! Thanks for sharing!

Another vote for the sunflower. They are all very nice!

Not a bad one in the bunch, and yet another vote for the sunflower!

It's a very nice series but the arrangement of the flowers (the false(?) alpine flowers) really popped out to me.

Agree. All are very good.

No, sir...not a bad one in the bunch!
#1 would be the weakest with the wilting flower and the cutoff flower. I'm another big fan of the sunflower image. What a unique looking arrangement!

I'm loving #7!

Yet another vote for #3. I like how the various stages of petal development are shown. #2 is my second preference.

The quasi-sunflower is gorgeous. Definitely one to print. And the others are VERY nice too!

I tried to search online for the sunflowers name, but with what I typed in, google only returned this similar flower. Still did not find the name though..........at least I tried.

(p.s. hope you have a sense of humor)..........

Rod - this is a quite nice selection, but the third image really stands out. That is one gorgeous shot! Nice work.

That is a superb set, Rod! Great flower portraits and sunset shots. Very well done! :toast:

Could the yellow flower be Western Sneezeweed?

Wonderful set.

Rod, really good series!!! While I like the sunsets and they are cool, my favs are #2 and #3 (the Sunflower) with the sunflower topping them all. Really nicely seen comp on that one...it really works for me. :toast:
