With the info I've been seeing online from different sources I figure 2 more weeks and Crested Butte wildflowers should be popping. I'm planning on heading up there the 22nd after work. Anybody else going to be in the neighborhood?

Probably not Crested Butte but somewhere in the San Juans. My son and I are planning to backpack or hit a bunch of spots for four days that weekend. In fact, thanks, this reminds me I need to research a couple of areas I'm thinking about and maybe solicit some advice.

Bill, I am going next weekend but might change depending upon the reports. Which other reports are your referencing?

I think we are also set on the San Juans -- backpacking for about a week at the end of the month.

Tim, I usually start monitoring the Crested Butte Wildflower Festival website about July 1 every year. This year it's pretty lame so I'm going on the info Sarah and Bill posted on the Wildflower thread above. Also just a hunch on my part. Past trips to CB and the abundance of snow this past winter. I may be way off base but I got a feeling the 23rd about 3:42pm will be the peak.

That is a great prediction....hopefully with the time of day can you also ensure that it is overcast? :biggrin: That web site is usually pretty lame with updates since they want others to update it and they never have from what I know. I was hoping to learn about a new link....oh well!!!

I should be down in the area on the 22nd through the 25th. I am going to head down in that direction next weekend as well to see what is around.

@Tim. It's virtually impossible to find current info in the situation at Crested Butte online. I am acquainted with a commercial shooter up there and just sent him an e-mail for some information. We did business together back in the 90's so it's a tossup if he even remembers me. Guess we'll see. As for the overcast, I've put in my order so we'll see. Rest assured, I'll have my trusty white bedsheet to toss over me for an impromptu tent.

@Jim...Looking forward to a very comprehensive report. Not sure what your location plans are but I'd be interested in a couple of things:

1. Can you get to Paradise Divide from the Gothic road? Last time we had this much snow it was still blocked the last week of July.

2. I'm kind of fond of the Lake Irwin area particularly downstream from the lake around the falls.

Not trying to plan your trip for you, just saying.....

Anyways, I just bought some Rockies tickets for next Sunday so I'm locked into the weekend of the 23rd. Good shooting!
