It is film, Velvia. I'm still getting acquainted with PS so "remove magenta cast" can be an objective.
Mark & Jim, thanks for the guidance, maybe we'll have more nice diffuse light this weekend for subtle shade work.....

It's feeling too messy and chaotic for my tastes. Others may enjoy this type of random forest compostion more. The OOF. branches at foreground don't help at all here. Needs a lot of sharpening. Needs just a bit more green to offset the magenta too. Email me a file (dosen't have to be full size) and I can show you some tips for web posting.
I also agree it's a tad chaotic. A crop from the left and bottom cleans it up somewhat and gets rid of the out of focus areas. With a little more work this could be nice!
I'm on the too chaotic side of the fence too. But I DO think this image will be a GREAT learning tool for eliminating color cast and generally improving your PS skills Eric.
Trust me the more ya work with PS the better it gets and the learning of PS never really ends... Which for me is the cool part cuz it never gets dull!!
Keep at it and keep posting!! We'll be more than happy to help ya bunches along the way!!
Just chiming in here...I like this comp, and also wish for a little more sharpness...but that funky tree on the left is cool.

I didn't have much to work with (because compression had already done significant damage to the image) but I edited this image anyway for your comparison. I can assure you it is entirely possible to post scanned images on the web that do justice to your slides. Here is the sharper, color corrected version I worked up. It could be MUCH better still working from the original file.

8 repliesI agrre with Mark that this is very nice. A touch of sharpening would fix Mark nit. It looks as though you got your dark problem solved.
Is this film? Digital? If you scanned film, the scanner sometimes imparts a magenta cast that can be removed in PS.
