Bells Sunrise
After almost five years living in Colorado, I finally succumbed to shooting the famous icon. I spent today's sunrise at the Maroon Bells and the near-full moon was setting just over them. I haven't decided if I'd go back yet or not...

Camera Settings: Canon EOS 5D Mark II, ISO 100, 3/10 sec at f/11.0
Selective dodging and burning.

Nice timing with the moonset. You got some nice color in the clouds too. I think this could benefit from a little more contrast overall and in the sky in particular. Also, I'd bump the vibrance and/or saturation just a little in the clouds and faces of the peaks for a little color contrast. This is really nice!

Thanks, Kalin. Here's a reworked one to bring more of that color out. I've also applied a small crop.

Jon, The repost is much better.
Did you try John M's image polish of 20/50/0 USM for local contrast?
Now to go back to MB three more times in fall, winter and spring to complete the four seasons series.

How can you look at that scene and have trouble deciding whether or not to go back? Awesome shot, Jon.

Sweet shot-the repost feels stronger to me.

Better! Like Doug said, excellent candidate for a four seasons series. Cliche but necessary.
The reflection looks a little light too. It should be a couple stops darker than the reflected scene.
Now get it printed!

Looks like some beautiful work to me.

The report is wonderful !

The repost looks great! And it's easy to see why this is the most photographed spot in Colorado. Very well done!

Mmmmm...the reposted version is excellent! Just about as good as it gets, too.
Hell, I've lived in Colorado for over 20 years now and still haven't visited this place (yet). :frown:

I agree, the repost is awsome. And I've lived here my entire life and I haven't been there yet.

Thanks folks! I suppose at my current rate, I'll have all four seasons bagged over a span of 19-20 years! Sorry, John - I guess that's 80 years for you!

Doug, I played with the clarity in LR3 (same as USM) after your comment and it brings it out a bit more - thanks for the suggestion.

This is just beautiful Jon! The increased color is just enough so it doesn't spoil the delicate pastels which, I think, makes this very different from a lot of shots coming from this location :toast:

Really like the second one. It does have a little more color.
