Andy's recent fantastic image of the eagle and gull has prompted me to write this.
As some of you will know, I left Lancashire to live on the Isle of Bute, Scotland, to take up photography full time. This has led to my wife and I opening a shop which sells many of my images, together with arts and crafts from other island crafts folk. After 3 1/2 years experience in the shop, and selling several thousand images, it has become very apparent that the general public look for 3 main things in an image - content, content and content, (and sometimes just the colour to match their decor!).
I still thoroughly enjoy the images on NPN and still learn a great deal from posts and critique, but I have to confess that from a strictly commercial point of view a "blown highlight" or sloppy cloning here and there, really doesn't matter much in comparison to the actual content.
So Andy, and all the other superb captures which appear on here, don't denigrate your images by saying that the technical side isn't all that good. Give yourselves a pat on the back for being in the right place at the right time with the right equipment.
Very best wishes
Phil

Thanks Phil - much appreciated :toast: :toast:

I know you are right, it's just kinda hard to be happy these days with anything less than technical perfection - even though it's a pressure that's self-inflicted   :jump:

Cheers for the timely reminder - as always, full of wisdom!

Stay well and stay safe. :wavey:

I am extremely encouraged by Andy putting up his fantastic eagle capture and by Phil's excellent comments. Sometimes out in the field we encounter and photograph rare and fleeting moments that very few are priviledged to witness at first hand. I am sure that many of us have some stunning images of these moments but are reluctant to post them because they lack technical perfection and are worried about the criticism that may accompany such a post. Things sometimes happen so fast or at such a distance that the perfect capture is impossible. In addition not all of us have the time or the computer skills to improve such images.

I for one have two images in particular that fall into this catagory but I now intend to post them both over the coming days in the hope that they like Andy's imaged are accepted for what they are!

I entirely agree with the above comments , and if I recall have said so a few times in the past. !!! Maybe its sinking in .
It obviouisly applies to fast action or unpredictable shots- or exceptional weather or other factors etc, etc,
Let it not be an excuse for OOF birds on a twig though     :toast: :toast:
