Am I the only photographer eyeing the likes of the iPad2 or it's same size competitors, and wishing for a tablet the incorporated the full blown PS-CS5 (and upgradable to later versions) that we serious shooters could take with us, download the days' shoots, and do some prelim processing when the urge strikes us.
They're coming up with customized tablets for all sorts of applications, why not this one for photographers?
I can't see a tablet having the processing power to run Photoshop for a long time. I might see maybe Lightroom for general editing, but I can bring my machine to its knees within Photoshop and it is a top of the line system. Where I do agree on the need though is for general offloading of photos from cards, categorizing and general viewing/light editing. We shall see what the future holds.
I agree with Koveh. We'll get there ..... eventually,
but the compactness with adequate processing AND storage will have a price.
Last January, I bought a 15" HP laptop during a closeout sale for $350.
It does everything I need in the field for downloading and preliminary LR sorting and processing.
At the moment, I can't justify a tablet for JUST viewing jpegs.
Apple needs to stop this hardware lockdown policy with RAM in the iPhone & iPad, that's the real issue. iPhone 4 and iPad 2 only have 512mb of ram and as you know it's not expandable (the 16/32/64gb is just storage and doesn't get used as virtual memory). There's no way Adobe could develop a robust PS version with those constraints. In fact, iPhone 3G and 3Gs have 128mb and 256mb ram respectively, and regardless of what Jobs says, THAT'S the reason why Apple wouldn't allow Flash because there wouldn't be enough ram. I'm an iPhone and iPad fanboy, but Apple has a lot of nerve charging a list price of $699 for the top line phone and pad and keeping ram so minimal with no expansion. I'd be all Apple on the computer side of things if the hardware wasn't so limited and expensive. I get aggravated because I've always been an Apple fan, but their approach to hardware has always been way too premium in cost. ANYWAY, I think for now all we get is Photoshop Express on the iPad. But let's give it some time because there's a few other things that need to get sorted out to make that work, such as file management and printing.

Or is it just me having a hallucination?
