My youngest son and daughter (ages 8 and 10 respectively) have filled two big, plastic storage bins with water. They are huddled in the cool water trading splashes and laughter under the hot sun. In fact, they've been out there for nearly two hours. The rest of us are indoors enjoying the air conditioner because we are too big to fit in the storage bins. Darn!

And for the record - I did ask if they wanted a wading pool. They're not interested. Boxes are more fun. Go figure.

It's hot out there - and it's the perfect inspiration for this week's challenge. HEAT! Bring it on, you guys. Let's see what you've got! I can't wait to see how each photographer interprets this week's challenge!

And while you are looking for images, send me your ideas for upcoming weekly challenges. We're running low and we need some help from NPN members. Send me an email with your suggestions!

Wow, Varina, it's been a cooker this year, hasn't it? Here's a screenshot from my phone from about two weeks ago. The weatherman said we've already had 23 days over 100 degrees down here in Phoenix, and at least 6 of them have been over 110. The only positive point is the humidity being so low, one day was 2% (not a typo!). THEN the monsoons arrived and the moisture hit... yuck.

Oddly enough, we had our coldest winter here since 1933, temps hit in the teens, and for Phoenix that's insane. We even had high winds, it truly fely like my years in Cincinnati. Most plants and fruit trees in people's yards died or got damaged.

Hey, so there's a possible topic: Extremes. Can be anything that's at its limit. Yikes, that won't be easy!

Wow! That's HOT! Whew! I'm feeling a lot better about our temps today, Paul. It's not THAT hot here! :)

We had a nasty winter her in Northern Ohio too - tons of storms, and it was one of the coldest winters I can remember. The kids got five snow days! We also had an unusually stormy Spring season - tornado sirens going off, getting the kids into the cupboard under the stairs (you start to empathize with the young Harry Potter down there), and watching the trees bend themselves almost to the snapping point in the wind. Crazy. Those storms brought some gorgeous skies, though! :)

I love your extremes idea. Thanks! I've added it to my collection!

It turns out that my 14 year old and my 12 year old are NOT too big to fit in those boxes. They dumped the snowsuits out of their storage boxes and now they have their own boxes filled with water. Hooray for kids having good fun!

It might be warm enough here today that I won't need a coat.
