I purchased a new 7d and the view finder is dark and grainy . Just wondering if any other 7d owners have had this problem. I am using a canon 400 f 5.6 lens. Yes this is with the camera turned on.
Max just checked and it is not in DoF preview mode. Dan I previously owned a 40d. Thanks for your replies.

HAVE YOU TURNED THE DIOPTER WHEEL TO SET THE VIEW FINDER TO YOU SIGHT?

I have the 7d and 5d...both view finders are clear and crisp...only issue I had was the 7d viewfinder needed cleaning from some condensation but that's it....
a long, long , long shot is mirror lock, as it seems i heard someone say something about that and the viewfinder one time...but I really doubt it.

I have noted on my 7d that when I use the 400 5.6 and then the 300 2.8, the view finder is darker with the 400 5.6. I believe that the view finder uses the wide open setting of the lens used so the 5.6 would be darker. Just a thought.
