We're hiding under cool rocks with a cold beer to escape the heat!
Seriously, it's been my experience that NPN does typically slow down in the summer and then picks up again in the Fall. I have heard from others that posting traffic at the 'Landscape' gallery has slowed down considerably of late. Why that is, we don't know.
It's pretty universal up here, where you have a short summer to get things done and the long winter for computers. I see a summer slowdown at other websites too, both photographic and less interesting stuff.
I believe the NPN site was also experiencing prtoblems a couple evenings ago, so I and possibly others could not get on at all to post and comment.

Summer in Phoenix: 115 degrees, monsoons, camera-destroying dust storms, hazy polluted skies socked into the valley, all the desert bloom is dead now and we're all perishing from dehydration. See you in October!
OK Mark, I actually did take advantage of a special moment where a dust-filled cloud bank in the east was illuminated by the setting sun. I walked outside and it stopped me in my tracks. I knew I had about 4 minutes and then the glory of Light would be gone. Fortunately I have my 100mm 2.8 Macro on my 5D2 which was just the right focal length to keep neighbor's rooftops out of the scene. I underexposed a little to make sure I caught all the details. I did boost contrast and sharpening but not much saturation, the scene had enough, lol.
I shot handheld at f/8, ISO640 and whatevr the shutter speed landed on. The IS is superb on that lens so I wasn't worried about shake, I just needed to get the shot before it all went away.
Where have all the photogs gone?
Long time passing.
Where have all the photogs gone?
Long time ago.
Where have all the photogs gone?
Gone to flowers every one.
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

I noticed the same Mark for a while now. I am here, but as Sandy said there was some issue with NPN Thursday night until Friday mid morning.
I like Morris's Hippie lines above. Guess I should not talk.
If I had a camera,
I'd a shoot it in the morning
I'd a shoot it in the evening
All over the land
I'd a clone out all the danger
I'd photograph a warning
I'd photograph LOVE between, the NPN members...
All over the land!
Even things you truly enjoy (like photography), you cannot do non-stop all year long without risking burn-out or boredom. It's good to step away from time to time and get with other activities.
Also, I still have a full time job that consumes way too much of my life, and I'm still trying to figure out how to deal with that...
Stan - That's hilarious! Now I can't get it out of my head.

You are hysterical, Stan.

Going out on my first photo outing today after seven weeks of recovery form surgery will see how it goes and who knows maybe come back with something to post! Keep your fingers crossed. Hope to get back up to speed soon on what everyone else is doing! Hope that gets me off the hook or at least some sympathy for my neglecting the group!!!!
I go out on a photo foray almost every weekend morning, but I haven't made very many good pictures for a long time. I've only posted two here at NPN so far this year, including the one this evening.

I've got all my kids home for the summer - which means my photography business... and NPN... takes a step down on my list of priorities. School will start up again in just a few weeks. When that happens, I'll be back in full force... but until then, the kids and I are making the most of the lack of homework/schedules/obligations. I suspect that others who have school-age kids have similar priorities, especially during the summer months.
And now, I'm off to take my lovely offspring hiking/biking/rollerblading. While I whistle Stan and Morris' songs. Maybe I'll take my camera along!
I just got back from a week in China. I’m so glad I decided to not lug the heavy camera gear….
The air was so bad I’m still feeling it in my lungs.
Edit: High noon and not a cloud in the sky.

I'm in St. Augustine FL. It was my wife's turn to pick this year. She's slightly nuts. It is slightly cooler here than it's been in South Dakota though. I have bought some new photo gear this month. I just bought a Chamonix 4x5 and a Darlot 5 inch f4 Petzval lens, c.1880. I've been shooting the summer festivals back in the Dakotas and Minnesota with historical cameras as my summer project.

22 repliesDoes this place (and the Landscape forum) just die off during the summer or what? Where is everyone?
Are they all shooting?
Are some going elsewhere?
Just asking...?

But, I'm still here.
