Did I miss the show in the CB area? There are a lot of CB photos here but it's sometimes hard to tell when they were shot. And I'm sure there are still compositions to be found, but I'm asking more about the crazy, once in a decade explosion that's been going on up there from the accounts that have been posted here the past few weeks.
I haven't been able to make it out yet this summer because my girls were born on the first of June and since then I've been...well...busy.
Anyway, for my birthday, my wife has gifted me a weekend out of the house to go camping and shooting and I was thinking about heading to the CB area if it's still popping. If it's pretty much over in the West Elks, are conditions better elsewhere?
Hey Matt,
I just got back a few hours ago. I went up Gothic and camped last night and there are still a ton, especially right around the town of Gothic. Like a big yellow blanket. I camped in a campsite about 3/4 mile from the avalanche debris and there were fields of columbine, (and here's where my flower knowledge kicks in) some red ones(fireweed?) and lots more yellow. Along the hillside where the parking area is where the road ends there are pockets of yellow. One looked like a sliver that was a mile long. Kebler pass seemed to have quite a few too but not like Gothic. Although, I've never seen an Aspen forest like that. It was amazing in it's own right. I'll try and post some preliminary shots later tonight.
