I am heading to the Pacific NW for 8 days of hiking/exploring/photographing. This will be my first time. I will be flying into Oakland this Saturday, July 30th to meet another photog and we are driving up from there.
The PNW, specifically the Columbia River Gorge, has been high on my list since I started getting serious into Landscapes several years ago.

I can't wait to shoot something other than Lake Superior again.

We are going to be all over the place, Columbia River Gorge, Crater Lake, Mt. Hood, Sparks Lake, falls in the central cascades, etc..

Really hoping to find some stuff off the beaten path to shoot in some of these areas.

I guess, I am just rambling, I am pretty stoked and can't wait to head up there.

Your timing is good, Shawn. It looks like summer has finally arrived in the Pacific Northwest. The entire Rim Road around Crater Lake just opened. The long, wet winter and heavy snowpack means there's still plenty of snow on the peaks and good flow in the rivers and waterfalls.

Have a great trip!

What Jack said! It's a beautiful book, and an excellent resource for exploring Oregon.

Normally wildflowers are booming at higher elevations during those dates, but there was so much snow this year combined with a cool spring that they are just now clearing. Hopefully things will be picking up speed by then (Avalanche Lilies maybe?). On the other hand, as Greg noted, melting snow should keep reasonable water flow for the falls. Two neighbors and I did the Ponytail Falls/Oneonta/Triple Falls hike Monday night, and the vegetation is still looking very good.

Have a great trip! Let us know if you have specific questions we can help with.
