As we thank Erik and David for their service of leadership, Catherine and I are eager to share our thoughts with you about going forward. We met recently to discuss ideas and to lay groundwork for implementation. We began by reviewing Jim Erhardt's foundational statements about the purpose of the Nature Photographers Network (NPN) and the Pacific Northwest Nature Photographers Regional Forum (PNWNP).
The NPN website that we are a part of is intended to serve as an online resource for nature photographers of all skill levels, from beginner to professional. NPN's focus is on the art and technique of nature, wildlife and landscape photography. PNWNP serves as a benefit of NPN membership for those NPN members who live in the same geographical region. The regional forums are intended to discuss issues/topics that are specific to the region, as well as to discuss local conditions, local photographic destinations and subjects, group events, etc.
Catherine and I would like to continue with the original intent of the forum, and to foster a welcoming online, regional, 'meeting place' to share the passion of Nature photography specific to our area. Our desire is to facilitate opportunities for PNWNP to be a place to talk and ask questions about locations, icons, the weather, equipment, our flora and fauna, etc. We hope the forum will continue to be, and expand even more into, a place for posting timely information on conditions and events here in the Pacific Northwest.
We encourage all to post photographs of locations, trip reports, species identification, items of interest, etc. In addition, we encourage posting photos for help if you are just starting out, or would like to get friendly advice before venturing into the Image Critique galleries for an in-depth review.
In addition to providing an on-line forum, field outings and gatherings will allow us to meet and interact in person. We will be adding dates for upcoming events in the near future.
The range of possibilities for enjoyment of PNWNP is as expansive as the vision of the group. After all, PNWNP is your group. Please feel free to suggest ideas you have for improving the PNWNP experience.
John and Catherine, thank you for taking this job on! I personally would like to participate in group outings and/or local meet-and-greet sessions. I would love to get to know some of the local members. My job had made it difficult to participate in the past but I recently received the dreaded "pink slip" so now I have plenty of time.
Thanks again for taking this on.

Those darn pink slips. I'm not sure whether to express sadness at the job loss, or congratulate you on the additional photography time.
Thanks for your willingness to participate! Catherine and I have a few things up our sleeves, and we'll be adding info shortly as we get the details ironed out. I'm looking forward to meeting more members myself.
