My son and I were out last weekend hunting for flowers and anything else pretty. We decided to scout some new areas rather than trek to the usual flower spots.
We started early Friday near Aspen and west of Carbondale. Not too many flowers but some beautiful streams and some places to go back to later.
Saturday found us exloring the roads and trailheads southeast of Reudi Reservoir in the Fryingpan River Valley - Gorgeous!
This first shot is of Sawyer creek, as it exits the Hunter-Fryingpan wilderness area.
As always, critiques are welcome!

That evening we drove over Hagerman Pass and found a campsite on the east side, near the Skinner Hut. On the west side of the pass were some nice flower fields with a great view south and to the west down the valley over Ivanhoe lake. We were blessed with some clouds and a colorful sunset.

The next morning we shot sunrise from the top of the pass toward Mount Massive. Still working on those. Just on the east side of the pass is a rock slide with some great columbine, so we spent a while working that area. The mosquitoes were so thick we had to fan them away to keep them out of the shots. Even with lots of DEET, we came away with battle scars.

Thanks to Todd for the tip to check out Hagerman Pass. It worked out well I think.

As we broke down camp after shooting the flowers, I reshot some compositions looking down into a lush valley below the ridge we were on. My aim here is a little more graphic/abstract composition while capturing the lush beauty of the valley floor.
A nice morning was capped off with breakfast in Leadville - sweet.

Hey Kalin nice set. I spent all yesterday around Hagerman and would still be up there if I'd been able to talk myself into cereal for breakfast. Still deciding whether to head back up or move east towards the Mosquito and/or Front Range to try to get some of the storminess that's all been happening to the east of every location I've found myself in at night. But those sunset shots of yours sure make it tempting to go back there, since the light died last night.
Nice set, Kalin. A few years ago I was kind of burned out on CB so I went over Hagerman for wildflowers instead and it was very productive. Not sure why I haven't been back but I was considering where to go shoot this weekend and this set pretty much convinced me. I agree with Koveh...#3 is terrific.

Thanks guys. I printed a 16x24 of #3 last night and it should be mounted and on display next Friday (August First Friday!).
Todd/Bill, on the Hagerman Pass road west of Ivanhoe lake, there is an old filled in lake with an amazing patch of elephants head. At least I think that is what it is from a distance. We couldn't get close to it as the are is a bog. But if you had waders or something and could get out to the flowers, I think the density of the flowers would be breathtaking. Hope conditions are good for you.
You know I'm gonna love me some wildflower shots! 3 and 9 are very nice, and I think I like 7 the best of the flowers. I really like that stack of Columbines.
Those are the best sunset/wildflower images I've seen yet! A large print will surely do them justice.
I'm also partial to #7, where the contrasty light worked in your favor. You might consider 'losing' that shaft of light on the left.
Congratulations on being at the right place at the right time!
