Yesterday's Storm
I lost power for 6 h yesterday, so rather than sit around in the dark, I jumped in my car to go take some lightning pics!
Pueblo West is not exactly great foreground material, fortunately i at least know what roads to hit, and after a short drive i found this neat house suitably isolated from power poles and such. This was by far my best shot of the night--the setting sun to the right and back of the image lit the house up perfectly. This is a 5s exposure at f/9

This is awesome, Stan! I've been bummed this summer as we really haven't had any spectacular lightning shows in Moab this year. There's still time, though.

This was my first grab--i like the tower hit on the left!

Brett--you beat me while i was waiting to upload--the server maintenance is really slowing things down! Heres one more--30s exposure after sunset.

Great way to spend idle time Stan...1 and 3 are awesome. You use a lightning trigger don't you? Arches had a great dry storm while we were there Bret...you were in Oregon

No, i dont have any desire to use a trigger--i think it would be like having a device that attracts all the fish to your bait--would take all the fun out of it!

The lightening king "strikes" again! I am loving 1 & 3 Stan. If I can get over the thought of getting struck, I might try this omen day

Nice set, Stan. I also don't use a lightning trigger for my shots. Some of the storms this month have been so active that with a 20-30 second exposure, it's hard not to get at least one flash.

All good stuff, but that first one has all the makings of a poor man's rainbow over the temple ala Galen Rowell. Spec-freakin'-tacular! We didn't get much up here, but I noticed down south you guys were getting pounded.

That first one is amazing, Stan! Way to be in the right place at the right time! You should visit with the people in that house, they would certainly want to get a print of that!

Great set Stan. Well done.

The first image is noteworthy. Also like the strike on the tower.

Great lightning images. Like the red foreground color in the first image.

#'s 1 & 3 are terrific!

Great series Stan. #1 is just remarkable and #3 is a close second.

Nice job, Stan. The horizontal lighting combined with the more normal vertical lighting is great. I went out this afternoon to try for some lightning, but never managed to catch any.
Posted by Morris McClung on July 31, 2011 at 11:15 PM
Certainly not the most dynamic of your lightning shots, but still such great catches. That first one is on the way to art, my friend! :toast:
