I found some very interesting articles about geology of the Sierra; in particular, the Yosemite and Mount Whitney regions. They were written by Francois Matthes, the pre-eminent Sierra geologist.

The Geologic History of Mount Whitney from "François Matthes and the Marks of Time: Yosemite and the High Sierra by François E. Matthes (1962)"

A selection of other articles from François Matthes and the Marks of Time: Yosemite and the High Sierra (1962) by François E. Matthes

Enjoy!

Preston,
Thanks for sharing these interesting articles. I started browsing the Matthes article, lost of very interesting historical bits. The title "Marks in Time" is so accurate. Best Regards.

Thanks for posting Preston. I just thought I would recommend that Yosemite site in general that you're referring too. A TON of information all in one place from a guy named Dan who is just a love of Yosemite like the rest of us. There's a forum there that I answer a few questions now and then, but it doesn't get a whole lot of traffic in that forum. But there's a wealth of information, history and knowledge references about Yosemite. Check it out at
